Initial Setup

Since Rawfolio themes are meant to look and function as a website, rather than just a blog, we'll want to set WordPress up to work like a website. The easiest way to accomplish this, is to let the theme do the heavy lifting and initial setup. After you activate your theme, you'll notice that a welcome message and two buttons appear at the top of the page, one of which says: Install RAWfolio Pages. Clicking this button will first create two pages, a 'Home' page, and a 'Blog' page. It will then set WordPress to display the 'Home' page as the front page (or Homepage) of your site, and will set the 'Blog' page as the page to display your blog posts on. Pretty straightforward, right?

Since we know some people would rather handle this on their own, we've included each step below so you can take care of this manually.

Step 1: Create your Homepage: Back to Top

Go to Pages > Add New and create a new Page that you'll use as the Front Page/Homepage of your site. You can title it anything you'd like, the most common is “Home”. Since most of our themes come with a specific template for the Homepage, in the Page Attributes box on the right side of the page (usually directly below the box containing the Publish/Update button) you'll see a dropdown box titled Template. Select the 'Homepage' template from the dropdown, and click the 'Publish' button. In many cases this will reveal a panel of options below the text editor that will allow you to customize/modify the homepage, but let's worry about those after we get through our basic setup.

Step 2: Create your Blog page: Back to Top

Go to Pages > Add New again and create another new page with a title of “Blog.” Don't worry about adding content as the content of this page will be replaced by your Posts anyway, so just go ahead and click the Publish button in the top box on the right hand side of the page.

Step 3: Tell WordPress to use a 'static' home page: Back to Top

Go to Settings > Reading and in the Front page displays area, select A static page. For your static page, select the Home page you created for your Front Page, and for your posts page, select the Blog page that you created. Last, click the Save Changes button.
